Aristotle

Aristotle (382-332 B.C.) argued that everything that begins to exist must have a cause and that, ultimately, there must be a first, or uncaused, cause. Otherwise you would have to have an endless regression of causes, but even then you would have to have one uncaused cause because something cannot come from nothing.
